Development

It is true that artists have always concerned themselves with depicting human images, but never before have more people been involved in designing dolls and figures! There is also an unprecedented degree of industrial duplication and marketing these days.

However, parallel to what we generally know as 'artist dolls' (purely designer goods), there has been an almost secret development, practically unnoticed by the public: the current trend represented by high-quality contemporary doll design and representational art:

Sometimes still a doll (but in a special sense) and often a sculpture or even an objet d'art. Superb works which are gaining increasing admiration and recognition even amongst connoisseurs!

What do we mean by artists in this connection? We mean those who have committed themselves to their work as modellers, artisans, designers, painters, technicians and tailors and whose work deserves artistic recognition. They are ambitious to meet not only the standards of collectors, but also their own high standards. They have developed and are developing ever new techniques, and they produce outstanding works - works which have long been viewed as a branch of sculpture in its own right.

It is not only collectors who have always accorded special recognition to the rare and special. Those making a financial investment deserve to know that they have acquired something extraordinary. Not a marketing gimmick, and not a mere reproduction or outsourced product. They deserve to know that they have acquired a high-quality, perfectly made work which is of an artistically high standard at a price which (at least today) is still manageable.
